Prix du président de la République pour le chercheur innovant: six lauréats récompensés

On Tuesday, in Algiers, six recipients were honored at the inaugural President’s Prize for Innovative Researchers, with the ceremony overseen by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui.

In the category for educators, three researchers were recognized for their innovative contributions. The first prize went to Ammar Azioune from the Biotechnology Research Center (CRBt) for his project on developing new biological chip technologies for medical applications in Algeria. Zineddine Khomri, from the Scientific and Technical Research Center for Arid Regions (CRSTRA), secured the second prize for his project on autonomous irrigation using ozone. The third prize was awarded to Attaf Djoullah from the Ministry of National Defense for his project focusing on food defense in the context of hybrid warfare.

Among students, Amel Imene Hadj Bouzid, a doctoral candidate at the Scientific and Technical Information Research Center (CERIST), won first place for her project on medical artificial intelligence aimed at modernizing healthcare in Algeria. The second spot was claimed by Ahmed Ilyes Bensalem from the National School of Computer Science in Sidi Bel Abbès for his advanced AI-based medical device for cancer monitoring and treatment. Nardjes Rihane, a master’s student from Frères Mentouri University in Constantine, took third place for her project on developing a natural biological catalyst from beneficial local bacteria and green waste.

During the event, Kamel Baddari, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized the symbolic significance of the award’s first edition, aligning it with a national occasion that recognizes Algerian students’ contributions to the nation’s progress. He highlighted President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitment to supporting research and innovation as integral to Algeria’s development efforts.

Baddari reiterated the importance of financial resources and human capacity allocated to transform universities into vital engines for economic diversification and development in a new and victorious Algeria. He described the recognition of the six laureates as an encouragement from the President to educators and students who prioritize knowledge, competence, and innovation in building a strong and prosperous Algeria.

He also stressed that celebrating excellence, success, and innovative talent should be a priority, advocating for establishing competencies across all fields. The Minister commended the honored individuals for paving the way toward an intelligent and innovative Algeria, rooted in knowledge and educational achievements.

He remarked that the laureates’ experiences in technology, knowledge economy, and food and health security position them as potential wealth creators through startups and micro-enterprises that can meet societal needs aligned with modern job sectors.
