Summary of Ministerial Meeting on Urban Development in Algeria

On Thursday, Minister of Housing, Urban Planning, and the City, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, led a meeting focused on the activities of the General Directorate of the City to prepare an overview of the first half of 2025. This event featured key ministry figures, including the director general of the city and local directors from Boughezoul, Hassi Messaoud, Sidi Abdellah, and Bouinan.

During the four consecutive meetings, financial and operational reports for each city were presented, highlighting budget consumption rates in alignment with financial law requirements. The directors showcased the progress of various projects through field images and videos.

Minister Belaribi emphasized the need to accelerate project completion, resolve financial dues to contractors, and ensure timely project delivery. A detailed overview of completed and ongoing projects, categorized by allocated budgets, included technical infrastructures and administrative buildings. He instructed the establishment of a timeline for these projects along with their prioritization.

In addition to project management, the minister stressed the importance of invigorating investment in these cities. He called for a comprehensive inventory of land designated for investment and reiterated the commitment to support investors starting from the land transfer process conducted by the Algerian Agency for Investment Promotion (AAPI). A technical meeting was scheduled to catalog all current and prospective investment areas, aiming to overcome existing technical and administrative barriers and prepare land for development.

Instructions were issued to explore new investment zones, such as a planned 264-hectare area in Boughezoul. Belaribi asserted that these emerging cities aim to lay the foundations for a sustainable urban and economic model, urging all stakeholders to intensify their efforts.

This meeting highlights the Algerian government’s commitment to enhance urban infrastructure, streamline investment processes, and foster economic development in new cities, ultimately leading to sustainable growth for the region.
