On Monday, a working session was held in Algiers, presided over by Aissa Naili, head of the National Defense Commission in the Council of the Nation. This meeting included a delegation from Iran led by Hassan Ghashghavi, head of the Iran-Algeria Friendship Parliamentary Group in the Iranian Consultative Assembly. The session aimed to explore ways to enhance cooperation between Algeria and Iran across various sectors, focusing on the implementation of existing cooperation agreements overseen by the presidents of both nations, M. Abdelmadjid Tebboune and M. Masoud Pezeshkian.

Naili highlighted a positive trend in the cooperation between the two countries, despite challenges in trade exchanges. He emphasized the significant potential for growth in cooperation, particularly given the priority both nations place on investment as a strategic objective. He commended the alignment of positions held by the Algerian and Iranian diplomatic circles in support of key global causes, particularly the Palestinian and Sahrawi issues, underlining Algeria’s commitment to its foreign policy principles and international law.

Ghashghavi expressed pride in the partnership and cooperation between Iran and Algeria, particularly in defense-related sectors. He discussed the importance of joint efforts in areas such as police cooperation, combating terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime, and cybercrime. He reiterated that both Algeria and Iran are peaceful nations that reject aggression and defend their borders and interests.

In addition, he proposed the formation of a committee of experts from both nations to examine mechanisms for enhancing cooperation in police, security, and the fight against terrorism and organized crime. He praised Algeria’s effective actions within relevant international organizations.

Naili affirmed Algeria’s readiness for all forms of mutually beneficial cooperation, noting that the country’s professional defense system is a product of continuous national efforts and sustained action. He mentioned that the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), as a successor to the National Liberation Army (ALN), is committed to enhancing its members’ skills to fulfill its missions and maintain national security.

He also spoke about Algeria’s pioneering experience in countering terrorism and cross-border crime, describing this experience as valuable and effective in developing unique approaches to these challenges.

Both parties agreed on promoting bilateral relations through strengthened parliamentary cooperation between Algeria’s Council of the Nation and Iran’s Consultative Assembly, aiming to enhance exchanges of visits and expertise.

This meeting underlined the commitment of both Algeria and Iran to deepen their ties and enhance collaborative efforts across various sectors, with an emphasis on security and mutual support in facing global challenges.
