lancement de la 3e édition du concours de courts métrage Canex Shorts
Summary of the Afreximbank Canex Shorts Film Competition
The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has launched the third edition of its short film competition, Canex Shorts, aimed at promoting emerging African filmmakers. The awards ceremony is set to take place in September 2025 during the Fourth Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in Algiers, which is the largest commercial and investment event in Africa.
Competition Details
The Canex Shorts competition invites filmmakers aged between 18 and 35 to participate. Each participant can submit only one film, for which they must hold all rights. Films must be produced in 2023 or later and can be in any language. There are three main categories for awards: Best Fiction, Best Documentary, and Best Animation, with a prize of $2,000 awarded for exceptional work in each category.
A committee will shortlist 30 films—10 from each category— which will be presented to a jury of esteemed cinematic experts from across the continent. These judges will select the winning entries in each category to be announced during the IATF 2025 event.
Benefits for Participants
Winners of the Canex Shorts competition will not only receive cash prizes but will also have the opportunity to showcase their films at the fair. This exposure allows them to connect with potential investors and partners, enhancing their careers and projects. The IATF 2025 is slated to occur from September 4 to 10, 2025, and promises to be a significant platform for upcoming filmmakers.
How to Enter
Filmmakers interested in participating must submit their short films, which should not exceed five minutes in length, through the digital platform Film Freeway associated with Canex Shorts.
In summary, the Canex Shorts competition serves as a vibrant platform for young African filmmakers to gain recognition and networking opportunities, aligning with Afreximbank’s mission to foster economic growth and cooperation across the continent.
