Summary of the Meeting on Supply Legislation in Algeria

On Thursday, the Algerian Ministry of Interior Commerce and Market Regulation convened a broad consultation meeting to discuss and refine the preliminary draft of a new law concerning supply and market regulation. This session, held at the ministry’s headquarters and led by Minister Tayeb Zitouni, brought together key stakeholders, including Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), leaders from professional organizations, consumer protection associations, and various experts and central agency directors.

Minister Zitouni emphasized that the proposed law is in direct response to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives, aimed at fostering a modern, organized, equitable, and transparent commercial environment. This legislative effort intends to build mutual trust among producers, manufacturers, traders, and consumers, thereby establishing a partnership that enhances stability and promotes economic development.

The draft legislation aims to enshrine economic initiative freedom while ensuring a transparent business environment that protects honest operators, combats speculation, and curtails fraudulent practices. Digitalization is highlighted as a critical tool in achieving these objectives.

The minister clarified that submitting the preliminary version of the law to professional partners and consumer advocacy groups for enhancement and review represents a commitment to a participatory approach in creating a law that meets the public’s aspirations.
