lancement prochain de la production de 2 millions de tablettes électroniques au profit des établissements éducatifs
ENIE’s Ambitious Plans for Educational Technology in Algeria
The National Company for Electronic Industries (ENIE) is gearing up to produce two million electronic tablets in 2025 for over 8,800 educational institutions across Algeria. This initiative was announced by ENIE’s CEO, Mohamed Abbes Bourassi, during the reopening of the company’s showroom in Algiers.
Commitment to Education
Bourassi emphasized that these tablets aim to support President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s educational reform program. Previously, between 2022 and 2023, ENIE successfully provided similar electronic equipment to various schools, achieving a local integration rate of 30% in these devices. The company plans to pursue international partnerships to increase this integration rate in the future.
Minister of National Education, Mohammed Seghir Sadaoui, highlighted ongoing efforts to generalize the use of electronic tablets in primary schools. The goal is to equip at least 50% of schools with digital resources, thereby alleviating the burden of heavy school bags and enhancing educational conditions and the quality of teaching to align with digital advancements.
Future Production Plans
Additionally, Bourassi expressed a desire to resume the local production of smartphones once a regulatory framework is established. The introduction of 5G technology will enable ENIE to manufacture devices suited for the Internet of Things (IoT).
The company’s future strategy revolves around three major axes:
-
Market Recovery: ENIE aims to regain a significant stake in the consumer electronics market, particularly in television manufacturing, with an estimated annual production capacity of 300,000 units. The launch of these products is expected in the next two weeks.
-
Electronic Payment Terminals: ENIE is committed to ensuring the availability of electronic payment terminals (TPEs), following directives from national authorities. The company plans to produce a diverse range of devices for managing secure payment operations, targeting an annual production of 250,000 terminals in collaboration with a Chinese company. This partnership will help facilitate technology transfer, striving for 100% local integration within three years.
- Renewable Energy Equipment: ENIE is also focused on providing various renewable energy-related equipment, notably contributing to public lighting projects, including installations in the new city of Sidi Abdellah.
Expansion of Commercial Presence
In line with its new marketing strategy, which includes expanding commercial spaces, ENIE has inaugurated a 168 m² showroom on Hassiba Benbouali Street in Algiers. This showroom displays a range of products aimed at both the general public and professionals, specifically TPEs and renewable energy solutions.
According to Bourassi, this showroom represents a "historical and commercial sales point" for ENIE, reflecting the company’s deep connection with its customer base. There are plans to open new sales outlets progressively in several provinces, starting with Oran next week, followed by Annaba, Sétif, Constantine, and eventually targeting 15 locations in southern Algeria by July 2025.
Conclusion
ENIE’s initiatives to produce electronic devices for schools, regain market presence in consumer electronics, and enhance payment and renewable energy solutions embody a significant effort toward modernization in Algeria. With substantial investment in technology and production capabilities, ENIE is poised to make a lasting impact on the educational landscape and beyond, aligning with the broader vision of digital transformation in Algeria.
