International Seminar on Geopolitics of Terrorism Held in Algeria
On May 7 and 8, 2025, an international seminar titled "Geopolitics of Terrorism in the Shadow of Global Changes" was inaugurated in Algiers by General Said Chanegriha, Algeria’s Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP). The event, organized by the Ministry of National Defense (MDN), aims to enhance Algeria’s approach to combating terrorism, a persistent threat affecting many nations worldwide.
The seminar took place at the National Army Circle in Beni-Messous, attended by key figures including advisors to the President, members of the government, and military commanders. Various professors and foreign experts were also present to lend their insights.
In his opening speech, General Chanegriha emphasized Algeria’s early recognition of the dangers posed by terrorism. He credited the country’s success in overcoming this threat to the strong support from its citizens for state institutions, particularly the army. He highlighted that Algeria had faced the harsh realities of terrorism and extremist ideologies, which jeopardized the foundations of the national state and its republican system.
The general stated that Algeria stands firmly against any contention over its anti-terrorism efforts. He remarked on the country’s unique experience and comprehensive strategies for combatting and preventing terrorism, which are seen as models for other nations grappling with similar challenges. He expressed pride in Algeria’s achievements, attributing the victory over terrorism to the solidarity of its people and robust institutional frameworks.
As the seminar proceeded, participating experts engaged in discussions about the geopolitical landscape of terrorism, the anticipated evolution of terrorist threats, and the fundamental principles guiding Algeria’s approach to combating this global challenge. Workshops and debates allowed attendees to present ideas and recommendations aimed at strengthening efforts against all forms of terrorism and extremism.
