Yassaâ reçoit la représentante résidente du PNUD en Algérie
Summary of Cooperation between Algeria and UNDP in Renewable Energy
On Monday, Noureddine Yassaâ, the Secretary of State for Renewable Energies in Algeria, met with Natasha Van Rijn, the UNDP Resident Representative in Algeria. Their discussion focused on enhancing collaboration in the renewable energy sector, as reported by the Ministry of Energy.
Current Cooperation and Projects
During the meeting held at the Ministry’s headquarters, Yassaâ and Van Rijn reviewed the existing partnership between Algeria and the UNDP and assessed ongoing projects. Notably, they highlighted collaborations with the National Agency for the Promotion and Rationalization of Energy Use (APRUE). This partnership aims to enhance energy efficiency and facilitate the energy transition in the country.
Future Areas of Collaboration
The discussion also ventured into potential expansions of their collaboration into new domains of renewable energy. This includes:
- Solar Photovoltaics: Exploring opportunities for solar energy utilization.
- Wind Energy: Identifying prospects for wind power projects.
- Green Hydrogen: Investigating the development of hydrogen as a clean alternative energy source, which could significantly reduce carbon footprints in industrial sectors and promote clean transportation.
Yassaâ presented key initiatives within the sector, including biocombustible development, energy recovery from waste, and transitions toward a more sustainable energy model.
Commitment from UNDP
In response, Van Rijn commended Algeria’s efforts to create a sustainable energy model that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She emphasized the UNDP’s readiness to strengthen its collaboration with Algeria, focusing on:
- Energy Transition: Facilitating the shift towards sustainable energy sources.
- Energy Efficiency: Improving the effectiveness of energy use.
- Capacity Building: Enhancing human resources and governance models related to energy.
- Sustainable Energy Models: Sharing successful experiences and expertise to develop robust energy systems.
The meeting underscored both parties’ commitment to fostering a cooperative relationship in advancing renewable energy, promoting regional cooperation, particularly with African countries, and contributing to environmental sustainability.
