Summary of the 38th Congress of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union

During its 38th Congress held in Algiers, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIPA) emphasized the necessity of consolidating Arab parliamentary and diplomatic efforts to gain increased international support for Palestine’s bid for full United Nations (UN) membership. The final communiqué, presented at the conclusion of discussions at the "Abdelatif-Rahal" International Conference Center, reaffirmed the significance of the Palestinian cause, including its people and sacred symbols such as the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which remains a central concern for Arabs, Muslims, and Christians alike despite ongoing Zionist aggression.

The UIPA condemned the deliberate policies aimed at pushing the Palestinian population from their homeland through starvation tactics and affirmed the need for international pressure to ensure compliance with relevant international legal resolutions. These resolutions reject efforts to alter the demographic characteristics of Palestine.

Moreover, the organization highlighted the urgency of addressing provocations targeting the legal and historical status of Jerusalem, urging for immediate international action to protect its sacred symbols in accordance with international law. The collective voice of Arab parliaments was deemed crucial for mobilizing support for Palestine’s full UN membership, a key step in recognizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The communiqué praised Algeria’s tangible efforts as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in advocating for Arab causes, particularly Palestine. It recognized the role of the Algerian presidency within the UIPA in activating and enhancing its influence and mechanisms on regional and international platforms.

Additionally, the UIPA condemned the European Parliament’s recent statement about Algeria, perceiving it as a blatant interference in Algeria’s internal affairs and a breach of its sovereignty. It also expressed solidarity with Lebanon regarding its national rights and condemned subversive plans jeopardizing Jordan’s security.

The organization welcomed the EU’s decision to suspend sanctions against Syria, viewing this as a hopeful step towards economic stability and development for the Syrian people. Regarding ongoing conflicts in the region, the UIPA called for intensified Arab efforts for a ceasefire in Sudan and the establishment of an inclusive national dialogue to safeguard the country’s sovereignty.

In Libya, the need for prompt elections was reiterated to establish legitimate and unified institutions necessary for security and stability. As for Yemen, the communiqué advocated for unifying perspectives among Yemeni parties and supporting international efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution to the ongoing crisis.

The Congress reaffirmed a strong commitment to regional solidarity and the promotion of peace and stability in the Arab world, with a specific focus on upholding the rights of the Palestinian people and addressing crucial conflicts across the region.
