Renforcer le rôle de la diplomatie parlementaire arabe pour aboutir à des solutions aux crises chroniques
Summary of the 38th Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Congress
On Saturday in Algiers, the President of the Arab Parliament, Ahmed Al-Yamahi, stressed the urgent need to enhance the role of Arab parliamentary diplomacy. This focus aims to foster purely Arab solutions to the chronic crises affecting certain Arab nations.
During his opening speech at the 38th Congress of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIPA) held at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center, Al-Yamahi emphasized the "crucial role" the UIPA has played since its establishment in 1974. The organization has served as an important parliamentary platform, reinforcing solidarity among Arab states and coordinating their efforts in addressing regional challenges.
Al-Yamahi reiterated the Arab Parliament’s commitment to bolstering communication channels and maintaining dialogue with the UIPA for the best interests of the Arab people, particularly highlighting the Palestinian cause as a priority. He pointed out that the current challenges faced by the Arab nation necessitate closer cooperation and stronger mechanisms for collective Arab action.
Furthermore, he condemned the ongoing plight of the Palestinian people, who are experiencing what he termed a "genocidal war" along with ethnic cleansing perpetrated by the Israeli occupation. According to him, the world is witnessing a dire humanitarian situation where the Palestinian civilians, especially women and children, are trapped in conditions likened to "open-air cemeteries" due to the blockade and aggression against Gaza.
In light of the humanitarian crisis and the atrocities committed by the occupation forces, Al-Yamahi articulated that the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian population represents a significant affront to humanity. He noted that history will not forgive or forget these events, pointing to the hypocrisy and double standards of the international community regarding the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.
He urged the international community to awaken to the violations of human values, laws, and international charters by the occupying entity, demanding an end to its blatant disregard for international judicial authority.
In summary, Al-Yamahi’s address at the congress underscored the pivotal role of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing pressing Arab issues, particularly the grave humanitarian crisis in Palestine, while calling for strengthened solidarity and unified action among Arab nations.
