On Wednesday afternoon, the 24th edition of the Arab Athletics Championship was inaugurated at the "Miloud Hadefi" Olympic complex in Oran. The event saw the participation of 160 athletes from 12 nations, making it a significant gathering for athletic competition in the region.

The opening ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Abderrahmane Hamad, the president of the Algerian Olympic Committee; Djamel Belbiodh, representing the Ministry of Sports; Ali Ibrahim Chikhi, president of the Arab Athletics Union; Yacine Louail, president of the Algerian Athletics Federation; and Samir Chibani, the governor of Oran. The festivities featured the national anthem, a procession of participating delegations and officials, and artistic performances showcasing Algeria’s rich cultural heritage.

This edition of the Championship included athletes from various countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Djibouti, Palestine, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, and the host nation, Algeria. Athletes will compete in 23 events for men and 21 events for women, all taking place at the "Miloud Hadefi" complex. Additionally, a semi-marathon event is scheduled for Friday in the streets of Bir El-Djir, which will be overseen by approximately 80 officials.

In summary, the Championship aims to promote athletic talent and cultural exchange among Arab nations, contributing to the development of sports in the region.
