L’Algérie déplore l’inaction du CS de l’ONU face à la tragédie du peuple palestinien à Ghaza

Summary of Algeria’s Position on the Situation in Gaza

In a recent address at the United Nations Security Council in New York, Algeria strongly criticized the “deafening silence” and “unacceptable inaction” of the Council concerning the ongoing tragedy faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza. The Algerian representative, Amar Bendjama, highlighted the council’s failure to act over the past year, which he claims has enabled atrocities and led to systemic destruction and genocide against Palestinians.

Bendjama expressed deep concern over the escalating violence, noting that in the past two months alone, 2,273 Palestinians have been killed and over 6,000 injured. While appreciating the United Nations Secretary-General’s efforts to alleviate suffering, he lamented that these attempts have not altered the occupier’s resolve to persist in its genocidal campaign, ethnic cleansing, and the destruction of Palestinian livelihoods. The representative condemned the international community and the Security Council for not providing adequate support to make meaningful interventions.

He pointed out that the lack of collective action and accountability, as well as a dual standard in policies, has emboldened the occupiers to act with impunity. Bendjama warned that the situation has reached a critical level, where for more than 18 months, the Palestinians—especially in Gaza—have endured unthinkable horrors including genocide, famine, forced displacement, and mass destruction, without any protection from one of the world’s most powerful occupying forces.

The targeting of Palestinian civilians, he emphasized, is not mere collateral damage but reflects a calculated policy by the highest echelons of the Zionist political and military hierarchy, warranting accountability and justice. He cited international humanitarian organizations describing the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza as the worst since October 2023, branding it “one of the gravest humanitarian failures.” Bendjama posed a rhetorical question about the unacceptable reality of famine being used as a weapon of war and urgently called for a ceasefire before the situation deteriorates further.

Bendjama also highlighted the precarious situation in the occupied West Bank, where colonial expansion is rampant, leading to the destruction of entire communities. He noted that armed settler militias, supported by the occupation army, are attacking Palestinian families, burning homes, agricultural fields, and places of worship, in addition to the daylight expulsion of Palestinians. Entire neighborhoods are being converted into military zones, while arbitrary arrests, home demolitions, and raids have become the norm.

He concluded by asserting that with backing from the international community through continued resistance and commitment, the Palestinian people will inevitably realize their inalienable right to self-determination and establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Final Thoughts

The statements made by Algeria underscore a deep frustration with the lack of effective international intervention in the ongoing conflict affecting Palestine. Their call for accountability and justice highlights the urgency of addressing humanitarian crises globally and reflects a broader plea for human rights and self-determination for oppressed peoples.
