Acknowledging the Importance of Educating Youth on Human Rights

President Brahim Boughali of the National People’s Assembly (APN) emphasized the crucial need to educate younger generations about the rights of peoples, particularly the right to self-determination. Speaking at the award ceremony for the first edition of the national competition showcasing the best school projects under the theme “Algeria and Just Causes,” Boughali framed this initiative as part of broader efforts by state institutions to provide a solid educational foundation for the new generation. This foundation aims to instill noble values that contribute to the development of a balanced personality.

During his address, Boughali noted that this educational initiative draws inspiration from Algeria’s proud history, representing a source of national pride and a commitment to the principles and values championed by past generations in defense of human dignity and support for the oppressed.

In this inaugural competition, nearly two thousand children from various provinces participated, including those from the Algerian diaspora, highlighting their connection and loyalty to their homeland. Their artistic contributions provided a potent medium for expressing their love and pride for Algeria.

The Minister of National Education, Mohammed Seghir Sadaoui, reiterated his ministry’s dedication to creating an environment conducive to healthy education. He stressed the importance of instilling national values in the youth, which are critical for continued nation-building. Sadaoui outlined a strategy that promotes ongoing, positive participation aimed at achieving the educational goals set forth by his department.

Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs responsible for the National Community Abroad, praised this initiative as a significant means of instilling national values and perspectives on global just causes among younger generations. He referenced the government’s strategy regarding the national community abroad, focused on strengthening ties with the homeland and enhancing the community’s role as an integral part of the nation.

Organized by the APN in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, under the slogan "Justice: The Foundation for People’s Rights," the competition celebrated 62 award-winning students from middle schools for their outstanding contributions in drawing, poetry, short stories, and monologues. This event not only recognized individual talent but also fostered a broader understanding of the values that unite the nation.

Through initiatives like this, Algeria aims to cultivate awareness among the youth about their rights and responsibilities, emphasizing the significance of justice as a fundamental guarantee of all people’s rights. The combined efforts of educational institutions and governmental bodies underscore a commitment to nurturing a generation that is conscious of its history and responsibilities towards society and the world at large.
