On Saturday, a new Free Shop named "Horizon" opened at Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers, showcasing a variety of both national and international brands. This initiative aims to enhance the shopping experience for passengers and introduce modern retail standards at the airport.
The shop covers an area of 2,400 square meters, as announced by Mokhtar Said Mediouni, the CEO of the Société de gestion des services et infrastructures aéroportuaires d’Alger (SGSIA). The facility is operated by the Salvo Grima Group Duty Free Algiers, which secured the lease contract back in January. Notably, the construction of the Free Shop involved a predominantly Algerian workforce and utilized local materials, reflecting a commitment to boost local employment and resources.
The initial phase of operations has begun, with the shop set to be fully functional by early May. Mediouni praised the efforts of Salvo Grima Group in creating a space that aligns with international standards, emphasizing their commitment to customer satisfaction.
Mohamed Salah Belhouchet, the manager of Salvo Grima Group, revealed that the first section of the shop that opened covers only 30% of the total area. This initial phase will feature the latest products from various international brands. Once the second phase is completed, the Free Shop will be organized into distinct sections for different product categories, including fragrances, cosmetics, confectionery, luxury clothing, jewelry, and more.
Travelers, both Algerian and foreign, have reacted positively to the opening, appreciating the diverse range of products, competitive pricing, and the welcoming atmosphere. This development is seen as a significant enhancement for the airport’s services and overall passenger experience.
