A total of 3,270 schools across Algeria have been equipped with electronic tablets, according to Amara Ghalem, the director of information systems at the Ministry of National Education. This announcement came during the national conference focused on evaluating the digital transformation within the education sector, which is ongoing for two days.
Ghalem emphasized the ministry’s objective to equip at least one school per commune with tablets. With the current tally at 3,270 schools, the ministry aims to extend coverage to 50% of primary schools before the next school year begins.
Highlighting the significant strides made in digitizing various regulatory, administrative, and service procedures, Ghalem pointed to the development of multiple online platforms. These include:
- Ostad.education.dz: A platform for teachers.
- Taqiim.education.dz: Designed for evaluating student performance.
- Mawidy: A service for scheduling appointments related to diploma authentication.
- Additional services for surveys and a revamped official website, which was announced during the conference.
Moreover, the Ministry has implemented a "zero-paper" policy for official exam registration procedures. Parents can also access an "students’ space" to view report cards, as well as request transfers and guidance, showcasing the sector’s commitment to complete digitization to minimize physical visits.
Since 2010, the digital transition in education has progressed significantly, marked by the digitization of exam registrations and recruitment contests in 2016, alongside other initiatives like e-payment. Ghalem noted that over 60 official documents have also been digitized as part of this effort.
Overall, these measures reflect Algeria’s commitment to modernizing its educational infrastructure and enhancing the learning experience through technology.
