Accrah: Algeria U15 School Football Team Prepares for African Championship
The Algerian U15 school football team is set to compete in Group A of the 3rd Edition of the African School Football Championship 2025, which will take place from April 23 to 26 in Ghana. This announcement follows the recent draw held in Accra, where it was confirmed that Algeria would face host nation Ghana, as well as South Africa and Uganda.
The draw defined two groups for the tournament. Group B features Tanzania, Senegal, Ivory Coast, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
The Algerian U15 team has been in training in Accra since Sunday. Their qualification for the championship was secured after a strong performance in the North African qualifying tournament held in Oran, where they finished at the top of the standings in late January 2025.
A total of eight nations will participate across both male and female U15 categories, vying for the championship titles. In the women’s bracket, South Africa, the reigning champions from the last edition held in Tanzania, will defend their title after their victory over Morocco. Tanzania, who won the boys’ championship at home against Guinea, will also be looking to retain the trophy.
The tournament’s financial rewards are significant; winners in both the men’s and women’s categories will receive $300,000, while the runners-up will earn $200,000. Additionally, third-place teams will be awarded $150,000. Notably, these funds will be allocated exclusively for educational development projects within the participating schools.
The results of the draw are as follows:
Boys:
- Group A: Ghana (host), Uganda, South Africa, Algeria
- Group B: Tanzania (defending champions), Senegal, Ivory Coast, DRC
Girls:
- Group A: Ghana (host), Morocco, Benin, Malawi
- Group B: South Africa (defending champions), Uganda, DRC, Gambia
As the tournament approaches, anticipation builds for an exciting showcase of youth football, fostering sportsmanship and development across Africa.
