la famine est imminente à Ghaza après 45 jours de blocus total
Geneva – Warning of Imminent Famine in Gaza
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Observatory has issued a grave warning about an imminent famine in the Gaza Strip due to an illegal and complete blockade imposed by Israeli forces for the past 45 days. This blockade has severely restricted humanitarian aid and essential goods from entering the already beleaguered Palestinian enclave, which has suffered 18 months of aggressive military actions.
According to the observatory’s findings, their teams on the ground in Gaza have detected alarming signs that the population is slipping into severe food insecurity and is on the brink of famine. The Israeli blockade has led to a significant and persistent shortage of vital food supplies necessary for survival, including cereals, proteins, and fats. The severe destruction inflicted on agricultural and food infrastructure due to bombardments has further compounded the food crisis.
Many Gazan families have resorted to selling off their essential belongings to procure food, indicating a severe breakdown of their coping mechanisms. The observatory reports that families in Gaza are now forced to limit their daily meal intake to the bare minimum, leading to dramatic weight loss among the population. Most residents currently depend almost solely on the few available canned goods due to the absence of fresh, nutritious food.
Furthermore, the human rights observatory pointed out that Israeli forces have deliberately targeted over 37 aid distribution centers and 28 food banks as part of a systematic policy intended to starve civilians and worsen their suffering. The consequences of this intentional starvation tactics, especially affecting women and children who make up over two-thirds of Gaza’s population, are deemed as some of the most brutal forms of genocide and a grave violation of human dignity.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Observatory emphasizes that the international community holds direct responsibility for worsening famine conditions in Gaza. It attributes the ongoing famine to Israel’s systemic use of starvation as a means to commit genocide against Palestinians, aiming to eliminate them as a group.
In its statements, the observatory insisted on the need to hold Israeli authorities accountable for using famine as a weapon against civilians, which constitutes a war crime under international humanitarian law and a serious violation of its obligations as an occupying power.
The human rights situation in Gaza is deteriorating rapidly, with the blockade and ongoing violence leading to unprecedented humanitarian crises. The observatory urges for immediate international intervention and accountability in response to these violations and the dire conditions faced by the civilian population in Gaza, particularly vulnerable groups such as women and children.
It is crucial for global actors to respond to this call for action to alleviate the suffering in Gaza and promote human rights and dignity for all individuals regardless of their nationality or status. The ongoing conflict and blockades serve not only as catalysts for immediate pain and hunger but as a part of larger systemic issues that facilitate ongoing violence and human rights abuses. The situation demands urgent attention and steps to ensure that humanitarian assistance is provided, and that the rights of civilians are protected.
