This will be the fourth time Italy has hosted the Mediterranean Games, having previously held them in Naples (1963), Bari (1997), and Pescara (2009).
The Mediterranean Games were founded in 1951 in Alexandria, Egypt, in honor of Mohamed Taher Becha, a pioneer in the creation of the event. Since their inception, these games have been held every four years. Algeria has hosted the Mediterranean Games twice, in 1975 (the 7th edition) and 2022 (the 19th edition).
