ALGER – Meeting Focuses on Infrastructure Needs in Médéa and Batna

Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Mr. Lakhdar Rekhroukh, held discussions with members of the National People’s Assembly (APN) representing the wilayas of Médéa and Batna. This meeting, taking place at the ministry headquarters, addressed various concerns regarding the infrastructure sector in both regions, as detailed in a ministry communiqué.

The meeting, held on a Monday in the presence of top ministry officials, aligns with the directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune aimed at ensuring ongoing coordination between the government and parliamentary representatives. The session emphasized the principles of participatory action and the effective management of citizens’ concerns.

Key discussions during the meeting focused on methods to realize significant local development projects that would enhance infrastructure quality. The attendees highlighted the need for the expansion and maintenance of the road network, specifically the doubling of major thoroughfares and the rehabilitation of several sections within the national and regional networks.

In Médéa, deputies pointed out the necessity of the RN 08 national road duplication project linking Médéa to Bouira, underscoring its vital nature. They also discussed the completion of the second phase of the RN 18 duplication project that connects Sidi Naamane to Berrouaghia over a distance of 25 km, which is crucial for local and regional development.

In addition, the representatives emphasized the need for increased road maintenance operations in Médéa, alongside the execution of railway modernization projects. They argued that enhancing railway infrastructure is critical to improving transport, reducing the strain on the road network, and fostering long-term economic and social activity.

Batna deputies raised concerns regarding the initiation of the RN 88 duplication project connecting Batna and Khenchela over 50 km, as its implications directly affect economic and social mobility. They also discussed the RN 78 duplication project linking Batna to Sétif over 90 km and the RN 31 duplication in the Merkouna region.

Moreover, the maintenance needs for RN 03, which connects Batna to Oum El Bouaghi in the north and Batna to Biskra in the south, were highlighted, along with the CW 15 roadway linking Batna to RN 88. Adequate attention to these routes is essential to enhance the quality and durability of road infrastructures.

These discussions allowed Mr. Rekhroukh to address the various concerns raised by the deputies and provide a comprehensive overview of the projects planned for the wilayas of Médéa and Batna. He affirmed the importance of the issues discussed and committed to examining all concerns seriously. The minister assured that steps would be taken to advance these projects, especially focusing on the RN 31 duplication in the Merkouna region, in coordination with relevant authorities, considering the existing priorities and resources available.

In conclusion, the meetings served as a platform for collaboration between government officials and parliament members, emphasizing the need for urgent infrastructure improvements that align with the aspirations of citizens in both Médéa and Batna. The commitment to address these infrastructure issues indicates a responsive approach to enhancing local development and promoting economic growth in the regions.

Note: This summary is focused on the key aspects discussed during the meeting, including the specific infrastructure projects highlighted by representatives of the Médéa and Batna wilayas.
