le renforcement de l’infrastructure du secteur, un indicateur positif pour relever le défi de la transformation numérique
Reinforcement of Algeria’s Digital Infrastructure: A Key Step Towards Transformation
On Saturday in Annaba, Algeria, Sid Ali Zerrouki, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, underscored the significance of strengthening the telecommunications infrastructure through strategic projects and modern technologies. This initiative is crucial for the country’s digital transformation, signaling a positive outcome in the face of various challenges.
During his visit, the minister inaugurated a Skills Center located in the area near Annaba’s port. The center aims to provide training in line with technological advancements. Zerrouki emphasized that developing foundational projects to exploit modern technologies represents a strategic investment to bolster the telecommunications sector. By enhancing this infrastructure, the ministry aims to pave the way for digital transformation.
The Skills Center is designed as an open platform for youth with the potential and qualifications necessary to enhance their skills in modern technologies and their interdisciplinary applications. Zerrouki remarked that this center would not only foster skill development but also create an environment conducive to encouraging the establishment of startups. This aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s goal of launching 20,000 startups.
During the inauguration, four framework agreements were signed between the Skills Center, Badji-Mokhtar University, the local industry department, Annaba Innovation Center, and the local branch of the National Agency for Entrepreneurship Support and Development. These partnerships are aimed at promoting collaboration and support within the ecosystem of technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
In addition to the Skills Center, the minister laid the foundation stone for a new Business Center for Algeria Telecom. Located in the 5-July neighborhood of Annaba, this facility seeks to enhance the sector’s infrastructure while providing quality public services to investors and business owners. Zerrouki noted that this project is an integral part of fostering a favorable business climate to attract both local and international investments through digital services that meet expectations.
Zerrouki also announced the upcoming rehabilitation of a facility formerly used for training by the National Company of Iron and Steel in Sidi Ammar. This transfer to the Post and Telecommunications sector is part of an investment project aimed at promoting modern and digital technologies under Algeria Telecom. Covering an area of 18 hectares (with 5 hectares built upon and the remaining space available for further development), this site is expected to evolve into a significant hub for entrepreneurship and youth skill development in new technologies, startups, and digital initiatives.
Throughout his visit, the minister also inspected various postal offices in Annaba and subsequently traveled to the newly established Benmostefa Benaouda city (formerly known as Draâ Errich). There, he inaugurated an Algeria Telecom commercial agency and a postal office. In light of promoting public services for residents, Zerrouki instructed the implementation of mobile postal offices to better serve the community.
To conclude his visit, Zerrouki held a coordination meeting via videoconference with sector directors across the country, focusing on enhancing the services offered in different wilayas.
In summary, Minister Sid Ali Zerrouki’s initiatives in Annaba reflect a commitment to advancing Algeria’s telecommunications infrastructure as part of the broader agenda of digital transformation. By establishing training centers, fostering startup ecosystems, and enhancing service delivery, the ministry aims to create a robust foundation for the future economic and technological development of the country. The efforts encapsulated in these strategic projects and partnerships are pivotal for preparing the nation for challenges in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
