Hamid Chalal nouveau président de la Commission médicale de l’UAJ

Hamid Chalal, an Algerian judo official, has been appointed as the president of the Medical Commission of the Arab Judo Union (UAJ) amidst the recently concluded Arab Judo Championships 2025 in Amman, Jordan. The Algerian Judo Federation (FAJ), under the leadership of President Yacine Sillini, expressed its congratulations and best wishes to Chalal in a formal statement circulated on their social media platforms.

Chalal’s appointment marks a significant milestone, as he is the second Algerian to hold a prominent role within the UAJ for the Olympic term between 2025 and 2028, following Khaled Ouennouf’s election to the executive board just two days earlier during the union’s electoral general assembly.

In addition to this administrative success, the Algerian national cadet team achieved remarkable results, clinching the title of Arab Champion in both individual and team events. The team excelled in the individual competitions, accumulating an impressive total of 11 medals, which included six gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. This outstanding performance put Algeria ahead of Morocco, which finished second with three gold and two silver medals, while Kuwait secured third place with two golds, four silvers, and one bronze.

The gold medals for Algeria were won by Larbi Addad in the -55 kg category, Mohamed Amine Dekouah in the -60 kg category, Oussama Laïb in the -73 kg category, and Soheïb Zitouni in the -81 kg category for the boys. The girls’ gold medalists included Roufaïda Bousebaâ in the -44 kg category and Dounia Berrahouel in the -57 kg category. The silver medals came from Dounia Adda (-70 kg) and Ranim Chaïbi (-52 kg), while the bronze medals were secured by Alae-Eddine Sahraoui (-50 kg), Mohamed Sadek Laoued (-66 kg), and Merouane Mohamed Anis Bettahar (-90 kg).

In the team competitions, the Algerian national team, demonstrating exceptional skill and performance with a flawless run through the elimination round, reached the finals. They triumphed over Kuwait with a score of 4-1 and battled Morocco to a close 3-2 victory. This performance solidified the reputation of the young Algerian athletes, all of whom had previously secured gold medals at the last African championships in their respective categories.

Chalal’s new position and the impressive achievements of the Algerian judo team at the Arab Championships highlight the growing prominence of Algeria in the judo community and the success of its youth programs. The FAJ continues to support and promote the development of judo in the country, fostering a platform where talent can thrive and compete on both regional and international stages. This concerted effort aims to ensure that Algeria remains competitive and influential within the realm of judo.

In summary, Chalal’s leadership role and the national team’s remarkable performance underscore Algeria’s commitment to excellence in judo, which is further enhanced by the support of the FAJ and the passion of its athletes. With a promising future on the horizon, Algeria looks poised to make significant strides in the sport.
