Boughali met en avant les efforts de l’Algérie pour le développement et la justice sociale
ALGER – The President of the National People’s Assembly (APN), Mr. Brahim Boughali, emphasized Algeria’s efforts in social development and justice during an address in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, at the 150th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly. The assembly’s theme focused on "parliamentary action for social development and justice."
In his speech, Mr. Boughali asserted that "development can only be inclusive and sustainable if it is founded on the principles of social justice," which include equitable wealth distribution, equal opportunities, and protecting vulnerable groups from marginalization and exclusion. He highlighted that the role of parliaments extends beyond legislation; it encompasses monitoring and ensuring the fair implementation of public policies.
Since gaining independence, Algeria has opted for a development model rooted in social solidarity. This is evident in its public policies, which advocate for free education and healthcare, support for vulnerable populations, access to housing, and the enhancement of citizens’ socio-economic rights. The government under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has initiated reforms such as raising salaries, abolishing personal income tax for low-income earners, and expanding social solidarity networks to improve purchasing power and bolster social protection.
Additionally, Mr. Boughali emphasized the state’s commitment to supporting youth and women through programs that finance emerging projects, provide training and mentorship, and encourage women to create micro-projects, especially in rural areas. He noted that over 4,000 startups have been funded between 2020 and 2023, leading to the creation of tens of thousands of jobs. Algeria is therefore focused on strengthening its productive economy and transitioning towards a knowledge-based economy through business incubators and accelerators, while fostering a supportive environment for youth initiatives and innovative projects.
To achieve global social justice, Mr. Boughali called for reforming the international economic system to make it fairer for developing countries. This includes addressing funding conditions, technology transfer, and adaptation to climate change. He advocated for enhanced parliamentary cooperation to share experiences in socio-economic legislation and to monitor governments’ compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), underlining the crucial role of economic empowerment for youth and women as a pivotal lever for development initiatives.
Reiterating Algeria’s unwavering support for just causes, especially the Palestinian issue, Mr. Boughali condemned ongoing violations against the Palestinian people, describing them as a "shameful stain on the international community." He also reaffirmed Algeria’s support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination in line with international legal resolutions.
Moreover, he pointed out crises in various African nations due to armed conflicts, urging for humanitarian and political solutions that respect human dignity, particularly for the most vulnerable groups, including women and children.
In conclusion, Mr. Boughali’s address highlighted Algeria’s commitment to social development and justice on both a national and international scale, reinforcing the importance of equitable practices and the need for collaborative efforts to address systemic inequalities and promote sustainable development.
