Summary of the Ministerial Initiative for the "Prix du Président de la République" in Algeria
On a recent Monday in Algiers, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, alongside the Regional Conference of Universities in the Center, held an informational meeting aimed at researchers and students. This event focused on elucidating the participation procedures for the "Prix du Président de la République pour le chercheur innovant" (President of the Republic Award for Innovative Researchers). The winners of this prestigious award will be announced on May 19.
The initiative aims to stimulate innovation and research within Algeria, which is crucial for enhancing the nation’s economic development. According to M. Djilali Tassalit, the Director of Technological Development and Innovation at the Ministry, this competition, launched on March 19, targets university students, teacher-researchers, and hospital-university researchers. Participants are encouraged to propose work in fields such as science and technology, health sciences, medical sciences, energy and water security, among other areas that contribute to national economic service.
The ministry hopes to attract a significant number of candidates, thus similar meetings are also organized in other cities, including Oran and Sétif. This outreach is part of a broader strategy to encourage maximum participation among students and researchers. Participants must submit their applications through a national platform designated for this competition.
Key conditions for entry include being an Algerian citizen living in Algeria or abroad and demonstrating involvement in a valuable individual or collective research initiative with a direct impact on the national economy. M. Tassalit emphasized the importance of these prerequisites and noted that the deadline for submissions is April 19.
The awards for the competition are designed to recognize and reward innovation. The first prize will be a certificate of honor accompanied by a monetary reward of 5 million Algerian Dinars (DA). Subsequently, the second and third prizes will amount to 3 million and 2 million DA, respectively.
Completing the discussion, M. Djamel Eddine Akretche, the rector of the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB), which hosted the event, described the competition as a motivating factor to encourage researchers to contribute projects that could significantly enhance the economy.
In conclusion, this initiative not only strives to elevate the profile of Algerian researchers and their contributions to national development but also aims to infuse the academic community with a spirit of innovation and collaboration that may translate into tangible benefits for the country.
