Khaled Ouennouf Candidate for Executive Office of the Arab Judo Union

Khaled Ouennouf, the first vice-president of the Algerian Judo Federation (FAJ), is set to run for a position in the Executive Bureau of the Arab Judo Union (UAJ) during the upcoming General Assembly, scheduled for April 8 in Jordan. This assembly coincides with the Arab Judo Championships 2025, taking place from April 6 to 10 in Amman.

The Algerian delegation for the championships includes eleven judokas: seven boys and four girls, competing in the cadet category. The team is being coached by Hamid Chalal and Asma Belaïdouche. Among the male competitors are Alae-Eddine Sahraoui (-50 kg), Larbi Addad (-55 kg), Mohamed Amine Dekouah (-60 kg), Mohamed Sadek Laoued (-66 kg), Oussama Laïb (-73 kg), Soheïb Zitouni (-81 kg), and Merouane Mohamed Anis Bettahar (-90 kg). The female athletes include Roufaïda Bousebaâ (-44 kg), Ranim Chaïbi (-52 kg), Dounia Berrahouel (-57 kg), and Dounia Adda (-70 kg).

The young Algerian judokas have undergone rigorous preparation for this significant event and are eager to perform well in Jordan, aiming to secure as many gold medals as possible. Notably, many athletes selected for this competition have previously won gold medals at the last African Championships, which fuels their ambition for success in the Arab Championships.

In a show of support, Yacine Sillini, the president of the FAJ, has sent encouraging messages to the young athletes and to Ouennouf in his pursuit of an executive role within the UAJ. This demonstrates a commitment to both the athletes’ success and the growth of Algerian judo on an international stage.

The upcoming assembly and championships signify a crucial moment for both the athletes and the governance of judo within the Arab community. Ouennouf’s potential election to the UAJ’s executive body could bolster Algeria’s representation in regional judo governance and contribute to shaping future developments in the sport across the Arab world.

The Algerian team, with the backing of their federation’s leadership, demonstrates the strength and determination of young judo practitioners aiming to excel internationally. This dual focus on local performances at the championships and on institutional representation within judo’s governing bodies positions Algeria as an influential player in the regional sports landscape.

This summary encapsulates the key details regarding Khaled Ouennouf’s candidacy and the participation of the Algerian judo team in the upcoming Arab Championships while maintaining the importance of support from federational leadership.
