On Thursday in Algiers, a cooperation agreement was signed between the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). He emphasized Algeria’s commitment to peace and international security, stressing Algeria’s advocacy for just causes worldwide, including support for the Palestinian right to self-determination.
During the event, Ms. Cherikhi lauded the establishment of the network, which will initially feature nine Algerian women mediators, with plans to expand this group to 22. This expansion will be facilitated through cooperation among various stakeholders involved in the agreement. She highlighted the significance of showcasing the experiences of Algerian women, particularly their contributions to reclaiming national sovereignty during the historic liberation war.
Furthermore, Ms. Natasha Van Rijn described the signing of the agreement as a crucial milestone in reaffirming Algeria’s commitment to empowering women in mediation and conflict prevention efforts. As Algeria serves as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, this initiative aligns with its obligations in relation to Resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security.
The Japanese Ambassador also expressed admiration for Algeria’s efforts in defending African causes and acknowledged the integral role of women in Algerian society, noting their presence across various fields and sectors.
