Sonatrach Partners with Health Ministry to Enhance Burn Care in Algeria

On Monday, the Algerian oil and gas company Sonatrach signed a funding agreement with the Ministry of Health aimed at improving the capabilities of the "Saïd-Chibane" burn hospital in Zéralda, according to an official statement from the group. The signing ceremony was co-chaired by Abdelkader Zerrouki, the Secretary General of Sonatrach, alongside Lahlali Lahlali, the Director of Health and Population for the Algiers province.

This agreement focuses on financing the acquisition of advanced medical equipment, materials, and supplies for the specialized hospital that primarily treats severe burn cases. The initiative signifies Sonatrach’s commitment to enhancing the healthcare services provided at the Zéralda burn hospital, ensuring that patients receive optimal care through improved medical resources.

The contributions to this funding initiative will come from various Sonatrach subsidiaries, which further demonstrates the group’s dedication to strengthening the medical infrastructure within Algeria. By investing in state-of-the-art equipment, the hospital will be better equipped to handle complex burn treatments, which are often life-threatening and require specialized care.

Furthermore, the statement recalls that a similar agreement had been established between Sonatrach and the Ministry of Health on December 21, 2023. This prior agreement was directed towards financing the procurement of medical equipment and furnishings for the burn unit at the Mohamed-Boudiaf Public Hospital in Ouargla. This highlights Sonatrach’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare not just in Algiers but across various regions in Algeria.

This latest effort aligns with Sonatrach’s broader social investment program that underscores the company’s role as a responsible corporate citizen committed to the national values of solidarity and community welfare. Through these initiatives, Sonatrach hopes to contribute positively to the public health sector and the overall well-being of Algerians affected by severe burns.

Overall, the partnership between Sonatrach and the Ministry of Health reflects a proactive approach towards enhancing healthcare services in the country, particularly for vulnerable patients in need of specialized medical attention.
