Futsal Tournament Kicks Off Excitement in Algeria: Semifinals Highlighted

On the evening of March 24, 2025, the thrilling semifinals of the 4th edition of the National Press Futsal Tournament took place at the Coupole of the Mohamed Boudiaf Olympic Complex in Algiers. This annual event, held during Ramadan, has become a cherished tradition among Algeria’s media professionals and is organized by the National Organization of Algerian Sports Journalists (ONJSA).

The semifinals featured two exciting matchups. TV 7, which previously triumphed over Ennahar TV with a score of 5-2 in the quarterfinals, faced off against TV 6, who secured their place by narrowly defeating Koora News 7-5. On the other side of the bracket, Echaab, having edged out Dzair Tube 2-1, prepared to challenge Canal Algérie, who came through with a solid 5-2 win against AL24 News.

The tournament began with 28 teams divided into seven groups of four. Initially, teams competed in a group stage, with the top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams across all groups, advancing to the knockout rounds. Notably, APS (Algeria Press Service) finished last in their group, failing to qualify after losing all three of their matches.

Under the banner of the slogan “No to Violence, No to Insults and Abuses,” the tournament not only highlights the spirit of competition but also promotes camaraderie and sportsmanship among journalists from various media outlets. The event is conducted in compliance with the existing futsal regulations, each match comprising two 20-minute halves officiated by referees from the Algerian Football Federation (FAF).

Last year, the tournament saw the electronic platform DZ Match clinch the championship title after a dramatic penalty shootout against Canal Algérie, following a tied match at 1-1 during regulation.

The semifinals schedule was as follows:

  • 22:00: TV 7 vs. TV 6
  • 23:00: Canal Algérie vs. Echaab

This tournament illustrates the power of sports in uniting the media community while fostering a message of respect and non-violence—a refreshing initiative during the busy Ramadan period. With finals scheduled for March 27, anticipation is building as teams vie for supremacy and eagerly aim for the coveted trophy.

In summary, the National Press Futsal Tournament not only provides exhilarating entertainment but also reinforces important social values, creating an encouraging environment for collaboration and healthy competition among Algeria’s media professionals.
