In the first quarter of 2025, Algeria’s customs services reported 206 cases related to the fight against smuggling and illicit cross-border trade, resulting in the apprehension of 313 offenders, according to a report by the General Directorate of Customs (DGD).

The operational brigades of customs made significant seizures during this period as part of their protective functions across various regions, including land, maritime, and air borders.   1. Narcotics:

    • 2,208.13 kg of processed cannabis
    • 329.19 kg of cocaine
    • 3,962,165 units of psychotropic pills
  2. Tobacco and Alcohol:

    • 161,556 packets of tobacco
    • 1,764 liters of alcoholic beverages
  3. Subsidized Goods:

    • 85,320 kg of subsidized products like sugar and semolina
    • 84,159 liters of cooking oil
  4. Fuel:

    • 142,220 liters seized, alongside numerous illegal attempts to smuggle automobile engines.
  5. Weapons:

    • Confiscation of nine firearms during operations.
  6. Prohibited Items:
    • 367,595 units of firecrackers and fireworks, deemed a safety hazard.

In addition to these significant figures, customs services thwarted attempts to smuggle commercial goods, including cosmetics, mobile phones, and laptops. This comprehensive effort reinforces Algeria’s commitment to combating illegal trade and protecting public safety.
