On a recent visit to Relizane, Kamel Baddari, Algeria’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announced notable advancements in university sports across the nation. During a ceremony marking the conclusion of university sports activities at the "Chahid Ahmed Zabana" University, Baddari highlighted that approximately 200,000 students engaged in various sports, both individual and team-based, from September to May of the current academic year.
The minister noted that the progress in university sports has resulted in 57 students earning international accolades and the establishment of 18 new sports associations. He emphasized that the federal strategy for university sports is showing positive outcomes year after year, aligning with the vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who regards university sports as a foundational platform for cultivating future champions of Algerian sports. These champions are expected to represent Algeria in upcoming national and international competitions.
During his visit, Baddari inaugurated a semi-Olympic swimming pool at the Bormadia university sports complex and initiated several competitions across various disciplines, including pétanque, football, handball, goalball, swimming, and karate. He capped his visit by unveiling a dedicated exhibition for university sports associations and startups in the sports industry. Furthermore, he presided over the awarding ceremony for students who distinguished themselves in various international competitions, including those with special needs, as well as winning sports teams from various Algerian universities.
