Algerian Students Shine at Huawei Global ICT Competition 2024-2025

Montreal, 20th-24th May 2024, Shenzhen, China – Fourteen exemplary Algerian students have made their mark at the Huawei Global Information and Communication Technology (ICT) competition for 2024-2025, held in Shenzhen. This prestigious event saw participation from over 210,000 students representing more than 2,000 universities across 100 countries and regions, highlighting the remarkable capabilities of Algerian students in the ICT field.

Major Achievements

During the competition, the Algerian teams secured four significant awards:

  1. Cloud Category: The team of Imad Eddine Mokrane, Abdelouahab Benchikh, and Amira Bali, from the Superior School of Computer Science (ESI) in Algiers and Sidi Bel Abbès, won the Grand Prize. Their performance was guided by engineers Sofiane Kara and Larbi Ishak.

  2. Computer Category: Another notable victory came from the team comprising Abderrahmane Talbi, Mohamed Mahloul, and Abderrahmane Della, also from ESI Sidi Bel Abbès. This team received the Grand Prize under the mentorship of engineer Anis Messaoudi.

  3. Networks Category: The team from the Superior School of Telecommunications in Oran, which included Ilyes Merzouga, Aya Sara Baldi from University of Algiers 1, and Ibrahim Senoussi from ESI Sidi Bel Abbès, clinched the First Prize. Their efforts were overseen by engineer Mokhtar Merah.

  4. Innovation Category: For the first time, Algeria participated in this category. The team, consisting of Sofiane Chelghoum, Ranim Mehatla, Walid Guessoum, Maroua Bentazi, and Ilham Aroudj, earned the Third Place for their innovative project in Fintech and insurance.

In addition to the students, several coaches were recognized for their outstanding support, including Abderraouf Abla from the University of Boumerdès, who received the Best Coach award for his exceptional contributions to student development.

Recognition and Support

The event garnered attention from the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, represented by Professor Ahmed Mir, who expressed pride in their achievements. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s ongoing support for nurturing national talent within global platforms.

This accomplishment is part of Huawei Algeria’s broader initiative to empower Algerian youth through educational programs, such as the Huawei Academy for ICT, which has served thousands of students from 59 universities across the nation. The recognition of Algerian students at such a prestigious competition illustrates their potential to lead, innovate, and excel in global contexts.
