Eleventh National Andalusian Music Festival in Souk Ahras
The 11th edition of the National Andalusian Music Festival is set to take place in Souk Ahras from May 20 to 24, as announced by festival commissioner Mohamed Benthabet Dorbani during a press conference at a local radio station.
Festival Highlights
This year’s festival, being hosted in Souk Ahras for the first time, will honor Ahmed Ettifachi, a distinguished scholar from the region. The event will feature a variety of activities, including an exhibition showcasing traditional Andalusian musical instruments and garments worn by musicians.
Participating Schools and Artists
The festival will see contributions from three major music schools located in Constantine, Tlemcen, and Algiers. Esteemed artists from various wilayas including Algiers, Constantine, Guelma, Skikda, Annaba, Mila, Sidi Bel Abbès, Chlef, Tlemcen, Oran, Mostaganem, Sétif, and Souk Ahras will also participate, enriching the festival’s atmosphere with their performances.
Programming and Activities
The program includes various concerts at the Kateb Yacine conference hall in Sedrata, featuring local artists. Additionally, academic conferences led by music scholars will be held at the Taher Ouettar cultural center, alongside an exhibition celebrating the area’s artistic heritage.
A jury comprising experts will evaluate the performances and will recognize outstanding talents by awarding titles for “Best Voice” and “Best Musician” playing traditional instruments.
Overall, the festival promises to be a significant cultural event, shedding light on the rich heritage of Andalusian music and its practitioners, while fostering community engagement and appreciation for this musical genre.
